Trash and Recycling
When is trash picked up?
Trash is collected on Monday and Thursday mornings at the carports. The collectors arrive early in the morning, so make sure you put your trash can at the front of your carport the evening before.
When is recycling picked up?
Recycling is collected on Monday morning at the carports. The collectors arrive early in the morning, so make sure you put your recycling bin at the front of your carport the evening before. Newspapers and office paper can be tied with twine or placed in a paper grocery bag next to your recycling bin.
What else can I recycle?
In addition to aluminum cans, Fairfax County will pick up newspaper, glass bottles and jars, yard debris (leaves, grass, brush), plastic bottles and jugs. For details, see http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/trash/recyclingtrash.htm.
I have a large item such as an old stove or large amount of yard brush. Will that be picked up?
Not as part of the weekly collection. You will need to call the County for a special pickup at 703-802-3322. This is usually a free service. For details, see http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/navbar/faqs/trash.htm.
Parking
Are all spaces in the parking lots free, no decal required?
Yes. However, you cannot park in areas where there is a yellow curb. These are fire lanes and you can be towed. In addition, you cannot park in the carports unless your residence comes with a carport space. The Homeowner's Association requests that you use common courtesy when parking in the lots.
What if all of the parking lot spaces are full?
You can park on the street on Wainwright Drive. However, you cannot park oversized vehicles such as campers, trailers, or motorboats there. For details, read the posted signs.
General Cluster Information
When are Cluster Homeowner's Association fees due?
Coleson Cluster Homeowner's Association fees are billed quarterly. You should receive a hand-delivered bill at your residence on or around January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.
Are there any special events in Coleson Cluster?
Yes, there is an annual Octoberfest and Cluster Cleanup Day held in the Fall. You will receive notices about it in September. It is free for all residents, with a minimal charge for guests.
Cluster Home Improvement
I want to paint the walls, trim, or door of my home's exterior. What colors can I use?
The Coleson Cluster-approved exterior paint colors are by Duron.
Where can I buy Duron paints?
The closest Duron paint store is at 495 Elden Street in Herndon. Their phone number is 703-471-1484.
I want to add a light to the exterior of my home. What are the rules regarding this?
The addition of exterior lights (whether landscape, security, or decorative) is governed by the Reston Association. Depending on the style of light, you may need to file a Design Review Application with the Reston Association. For guidelines on lights, see Cluster Guide. There you will find links to guidelines for security and decorative lighting. These guidelines are also in your Reston Association binder you received when you bought your property.
